    • The Upper Canada Militia Rolls of 1818 show George Sparks age as 23 which makes his birth date 1795 (RG 9, IB, Vol. 29). [1]
    • The headstone for George and Letitia Sparks records George's age at death as 54. Naomi Slater Heydon also indicates George's birth date as 1803. The Canadian News published in London, England in the mid-19th century shows george's age at death as 54.
    • As a side note, from RG 9, Volume 29, for years 1823-28, the records show John Boucher age 35, William Morgan age 30, John Mulligan age 23, Michael Deevy age 34, and Alex Kinch age 25. This large list is filed in Township of Nepean papers.

    Notes 
    • George is a brother of Nicholas Sparks of Bytown, according to newspaper clipping with PAC.
    • George left a will dated 30 June, 1857, registered in Land Office as Instrument # 11737.
    • According to 1842 census, George had lived 18 years in province, indicating that he emigrated to Canada in 1824.
    • 1851 Census of Canada shows George lived on Lot 33, Concession 5, Nepean Township, in a log house of 1 and one-half stories. George purchased part of Lot 33, Concession 5 Rideau Front on 27 April, 1828, paying more for it than Nicholas paid for his lot on Wellington Street, and the remaining part, he purchased 1833. On 3 August 1841, he bought East half of Lot 32. In 1861 he had a log house, 1 and a half stories.
    • Info from old files: according to cemetery monument, George was born 1803 and died 9 Dec 1857.
    • George and Hugh Bell together bought expensive land at Bells Corners, and then he bought out Hugh Bell. The question is why the land was so valuable. The land had been owned by James Fallon, of Richmond, an ex-soldier and a Worshipful Master of Richmond Mills earliest Masonic Lodge. The land went for taxes and then was bought by Wright before Sparks.
    • From Bytown Gazette edition before Mar 29, 1851: Carleton County Council: Minutes of Dec. Sessions, 1850; Petition 18: Mr. Chipman presented the petition of Nicholas Brennan and others, respecting a road leading to March from the 12th conc of Goulburn to the lst conc. of Nepean. Petition 19:: Mr. Chapman presented the petition of George Sparks and others respecting the opening of the Town Line between March & Nepean.
    • Voters List for election in Nepean Township in 1836 (see O.G.S. Ottawa Branch Z-61) shows name as GEORGE W. SPARKS.
    • From Bytown Gazette Oct 1, 1844: Premiums awarded by Dalhousie Agricultural Society for 1844 include: for Rams: 2nd prize George Sparks: for Butter lst to Hugh Bell, and 2nd to George Sparks; for Ploughing 6th prize to Abraham Sparks.
    • Information from Deborah Elder, 216 Blake St., Cobourg, K9A 2K6 whom I met at Kingston O.G.S. seminar about an Elizabeth Sparks, of Colchester, Essex, Eng. who had some connection with Sparks St. Sparkses.
    • Letter # 4679 and Letter 14684 (MG24D8, Vol. 33, 4679-81), dated May 12, 1827, that George Sparks is buying Fallon property in Bells Corners. Release of Interest in Bells Corners property by Letitia sparks to John Sparks shows Letitia signing with an X. So also the deed to the Bells Corners property shows George (her husband) signing with an X. Documents 6094 and and Memorial #165 and #629, Hugh Bell to George Sparks.
    • See copy of will of George sparks who signed with X on file. It appears to have come from Public Archives and maybe file of N. Sparks. real estate to three sons with right of livelihood to wife and daughter Elizabeth.

      It's unknown whether a family member or non-family member provided George's death listing, but Naomi Slater's notes corroborate George's birth date as 1803, so the source is deemed as plausible instead of proven.     6. [S5] Ferns Parish Register Vestry Minute Book (Reliability: 2).
      Ferns parish marriage records show that a George Sparks of Ballylusk married Mary Ellard of Tincurry. The eldest son of Abraham Sparks of Tincurry was named George and so it seems probable that George the son of Abraham of Tincurry is the named George of Ballylusk.
